Pre-Audition Nutrition Tips

Around audition season, I have seen a lot of  women go to extreme lengths to crash diet and lose weight.  This can be extremely dangerous and hard on your body.  Auditioning can be physically, emotionally, and mentally draining–so this means you must make sure your nutrition is on point so you can perform at the top of your game.  Inadequate nutrition during this crucial time will most likely lead to fatigue, exhaustion, poor memory, dehydration and even injuries.  If you are dieting, make sure that you are making it part of your lifestyle and not using it as a temporary fix by going to extremes.  Most teams ask that you at least maintain your audition weight, so if this weight is not realistic for your body type–you may spend your entire season benched.

Try introducing these nutritional tips into your daily routine so you can be in tip-top shape at auditions…

  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated (especially when you are exercising and dancing).

  • Make sure you eat breakfast.  Skipping this meal can throw off your metabolism causing your body to hold on to calories rather than burn them.

  • Eat 3 meals a day with healthy snacks in between.  Eating regularly gets your metabolism going, while fasting makes your body hold on to unwanted calories.

  • Drink green tea instead of coffee and sugary drinks.  Green tea is also great for speeding up your metabolism.

  • Eat lean proteins.

  • Eat uncooked vegetables (hold the ranch!)

  • Stick with healthy fats like olive oil, avocados, and nuts.

  • When you wake up in the morning, eat your first meal within the first hour.

  • Avoid eating 2 hours before going to bed.

  • Reduce your carbohydrate intake.
