If you’re a fan of the hit reality show, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Making the Team, then I’m sure you caught the premiere of season 9 last Friday night! If you missed it, you’re in the right place! Here’s what you missed…
Just like every season, the episode starts off with girls walking into the intimidating AT&T Stadium. They immediately introduced the viewers to Shannon from Pittsburg, PA. Her back story reveals that she had been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease–showing that she’s a true fighter. Immediately I began pulling for her because of her amazing dedication.
The freestyle round began and they introduced a new celebrity judge, 2006-2007 DCC and Dancing with the Stars champion, Melissa Rycroft. During this round the judges use a Yes, No or Maybe rubric looking for great technique, showmanship, and overall appeal.
Next the viewers are introduced to some familiar faces–Tessa, fan favorite Vivian, and Ashley–all Training Camp Candidates in 2013. Tessa unfortunately tore her ACL during training camp and decided to give it another go for the 2014-2015 season. Vivian, a sweet young woman I had the privilege to work with before this year’s auditions, also decided to give it another try and looked absolutely radiant showing the judges she worked on everything that was asked of her. Another featured girl was Ashley. She was a Training Camp Candidate last year that had the full package, but seemed to lack the confidence, which is totally understandable. In DCC training camp, you are constantly being watched and evaluated–which is enough to make anyone fearful to the point of messing up.
We were also introduced to new and fresh faces. The lovely and beautiful Amy from Chicago, proved that she could trade in her hard hat and gloves for a more glamorous look. I had the privilege of connecting with Amy through social media and she’s truly a passionate individual with the work ethic to match. Alexandra, a beautiful girl I met during one of my pro cheer prep classes, showed a glimpse of her life as a special education teacher and an Allen American Ice Angel. Christina from Ft. Worth, gave up on dancing during her teen years, but gravitated back to her passion after high school–she was also introduced.
Moving on to what I thought was the most difficult round–semi-finals, the girls learned a sassy pom/jazz routine choreographed by the beautiful former DCC Mia Greenhouse. Quickly after, the girls learned a watered down version of the infamous DCC kickline.
After the girls performed the routine and kickline, the judges deliberated choosing the 2014-2015 DCC finalists. Out of the featured candidates, rock star Shannon was given a chance as well as Ft. Worth local Christina. Special education teacher, Alexandra and 2013 training camp candidates, Vivian and Ashley secured themselves spots as well.
This week, the girls go head to head with the veterans for the final round of auditions. We will also be able to see who has what it takes to receive an invitation to training camp.
Check out CMT this Friday for episode 2 of DCC Making the Team Season 9!
